ELMSFORD, N.Y. (February 28, 2022) — Recent weeks have provided plenty of opportunities to cheer on Met Area players competing on the professional ranks.

On the PGA TOUR, four-time MGA champion Cameron Young of Scarborough, N.Y., has quickly climbed both the FedExCup (No. 15) point list and the Official World Golf Ranking (No. 51), thanks to four consecutive weeks of quality finishes. While the Wake Forest graduate logged a runner-up finish at the Sanderson Farms Championship back in October, his latest run has included a T-20 finish at the Farmers Insurance Open, a T-26 finish at the WM Phoenix Open, a T-2 finish in the Genesis Invitational and a T-16 finish at the Honda Classic.

Young gained his TOUR card thanks to back-to-back Korn Ferry Tour victories last May which, paired with additional top finishes, allowed him to close the season 19th on the Tour’s points list and secure his TOUR card. He ranked outside the top 500 in the world prior to last May, but his continued rise could land him exemptions into the season’s majors. A top-50 ranking on March 28 would gain Young an invite to the Masters. While Young narrowly missed out on an exemption into THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP (top 50 in OWGR following the Honda Classic), he still has an opportunity to get in if the field based on his standing on the FedExCup points list.

As those in the Met Area often saw, Young’s length off the tee plays a major role in his game. The 24-year-old currently ranks second in shots gained: off-the-tee (.837) and fifth in driving distance (319.2 yds).

Meanwhile, GlenArbor director of golf Rob Labritz has made his first two Champions Tour starts after earning medalist honors at the Tour’s Q-School in early December. Labritz finished tied for 26th in his debut at the Chubb Classic before a T-33 finish in the Cologard Classic, finishing under-par in both events.

On the Korn Ferry Tour, New Jersey’s Ryan McCormick currently ranks No. 11 in “The 25” thanks to five made cuts in six starts. McCormick began the season with a T-11 finish in The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic while narrowly missing out on a playoff in the Astara Golf Championship in mid-February. The past Met Amateur champion ranks sixth in greens in regulation percentage (80.56) and tenth in driving distance (314.6 yds).

Jay Card III has also been on a tear, quickly turning conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour into secured status for the season thanks to back-to-back top-10 finishes in the Astara Golf Championship and the LECOM Suncoast Classic. The Long Island native, who in 2021 finished tied 17 in the 106th Met Open Championship and also teamed with his dad to win the professional division of the MGA Father & Son Championship, played one season of collegiate golf and has been working hard on his game in Florida. The 27-year-old currently ranks No. 23 in The 25.

Connecticut’s John VanDerLaan and New Jersey’s Max Greyserman stand among additional Met Area players currently competing on the Korn Ferry Tour, and sit ranked No. 37 and 43 in The 25.
