Day 1 Complete at 2025 Long Island Senior Open

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (October 7, 2025) – A chilly morning greeted players at Colonial Springs Golf Club for the opening round of the Long Island Senior Open Championship sponsored by Steve Madden, where Louis de Kerillis of Southampton Golf Club led the field with a steady 1-under 71. De Kerillis’ round was highlighted by five birdies, including a strong finish that positioned him atop the leaderboard heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Close behind were Kirk Oguri of Pete’s Golf Shop and Scott Hawkins of Glen Head Country Club, both carding even-par 72s. Oguri’s round featured four birdies, including a clutch putt on No. 18 to secure his share of second place, while Hawkins posted three birdies to remain in contention.

Also posting strong performances were Jim Smoot of Huntington Country Club, Scott Wise of North Hills, and amateur Edward Gibstein of Glen Head Country Club, each finishing at 1-over 73. The cut was set at 6-over 78, with 39 golfers advancing to tomorrow’s final round.

“I felt steady and really relaxed out there,” said de Kerillis. “The course was set up perfectly—it was gettable, and the greens were at great speeds. You just had to go out there and play aggressively.” Looking ahead to the final round, he added, “I plan to just stay relaxed and keep it in front of me.”

Looking to the final round, the first tee time is at 9 a.m. and the leaders are teeing off at noon. Overall, 39 golfers advanced to the final round including 12 amateurs.
